Jammu: Independence Day ‘terror attack’ foiled, cops arrest youth with 8 grenades

The police have identified the youth as Arfan Wani and inform that he is a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama district in the valley. The arrest was made based on an intelligence input by security agencies. With security forces and police are on high alert in the wake of Independence Day.

As per the intelligence inputs, there were information that militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen have entered Indian side and are planning to carry multiple attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi on the Independence Day. The arrested youth is being interrogated and the security personnel are trying to figure out his contacts in the national capital.

The Valley is under a lockdown since Monday morning due to the hearing of the petitions of Article 35 A in Supreme Court. The apex court had adjourned the matter for next hearing on August 27.  Under the petition, validity of Article 35A was challenged, which empowers J&K state’s legislature to define ‘permanent residents’ of the state and provide special rights to them, reports Times Now.
