On Tuesday, four policemen were killed and another critically injured in a militant attack in Zainapora area of Jammu and Kashmir’s southern Shopian district. The attack took place while the policemen were keeping watch on a residential area and were inside their guard room when the terrorists fired at them this afternoon.
According to the officials, a group of militants attacked a police post set up for the protection of minority Pandit community members at Zainapora with gunfire. In the attack, three of the four policemen manning the post died on the spot. The officials also said that the critically injured policeman is battling for life at the hospital, has later succumbed to his injuries.
The militants also shamelessly decamped with the service weapons of the policemen and fled from the area,
A search operation is launched by the Army and J&K police’s counterinsurgency Special Operations Group (SOG) in conjunction with the central armed forces, in a vast area around the scene of occurrence, a report from Shopian said.
