Curtail Amarnath Yatra, Leave Kashmir ASAP: J&K Govt Issues Security Advisory For Pilgrims

Keeping in mind the safety and security of Amaranth Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) administration has issued a precautionary advisory to all pilgrims, citing terror threat in the Valley. In a security advisory, J&K administration urged all Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to curtail their stay in the Valley or return as soon as possible.

According to intelligence inputs, India has received a terror threat in the Valley. Looking at the gravity of the situation, J&K issued a security advisory which states, the Amarnath pilgrims and the tourists “may curtail their stay in the Valley immediately and take necessary measures to return as soon as possible”.

The security advisory comes hours after the Indian Army recovered a Pakistan Ordnance factory anti-personnel mine from a terror cache. The Army said that terrorists belong to Pakistan and they are planning to carry out an attack at the Amarnath Yatra.

“A Pakistan Army landmine has also been recovered from one of the caches of terrorists. This clearly indicates that Pakistan Army is involved in terrorism in Kashmir, this will not be tolerated,” Lt General KJS Dhillon, Commander of the Chinar Corps, said in a press conference in Srinagar.

The Jammu and Kashmir’s advisory to Amarnath pilgrims further reads: “Keeping in view the latest intelligence inputs of terror threats, with specific targeting of the Amarth Yatra, and given the prevailing security situation in the Kashmir Valley, in the interest of safety and security of the tourists and Amarnath Yatris, it is advised that they may curtail their stay in the Valley immediately and take necessary measures to return as soon as possible.”

As soon as the advisory was issued, people belonging to every corner of the country started giving their views and some of them questioned the J&K government’s decision of urging Amarnath Yatris to leave the Valley.

The former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to Twitter and wrote, “Although this unprecedented order would seem to suggest a genuine fear of a massive terror strike directed at Amarnath ji yatris or/and tourists this will do nothing to dampen the sense of fear & foreboding that prevails in the valley at the moment.”

Notably, the Amarnath Yatra was supposed to continue till 15th August 2019 but owing to terror threat it has been reduced.
