Olympic champion sprinter Yohan Blake of Jamaica prefers to miss the Tokyo Games than get a COVID-19 vaccine. The Jamaican sprinter has categorically stated that he will not be taking the COVID-19 vaccine. He added that he is more than happy to miss the games if forced to take the jab.
Speaking to Jamaican Newspaper The Gleaner he said, “My mind still stays strong, I don’t want the vaccine. I would rather miss the Olympics than take the vaccine, I am not taking it. I don’t really want to get into it now, but I have my reasons.”
In a video posted on Twitter, The two-time Olympic gold medallist who is a rival of Jamaican great Usain Bolt said, “Follow your mind, don’t follow the crowd. At the same time, be respectful to each and every one. Don’t let no one take away your choice.”
Until last week it was necessary for athletes to have the vaccine to compete in the Tokyo Olympics. But now according to the newly released International Olympic Committee (IOC) playbook, it won’t be compulsory for athletes to receive the jab ahead of the Games.
This new rule will surely come as good news to Yohan.
The Tokyo Olympics were pushed back by a year due to the global health crisis. They are all set to begin on July 23. But speculations abound that the event might get cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic.
