The debate over the making the Aadhaar card mandatory for all verification related schemes is yet to be solved, another case of negligence in delivery of Aadhaar cards has come to limelight in Jalupura area Jaipur. Police have recovered 2,000 undelivered Aadhaar cards from a scrap dealer’s shop on Thursday.
According to the local police, investigating the case, the sack filled with 2,000 unique identity cards or Aadhaar cards were spotted by the school children passing by. These children also saw that envelopes were marked with a Rs 5 stamp, ready to be dispatched.
Escaping a delay, these children informed the local councilor Ikramuddin about the matter, who informed the police. Speaking with the media, Ikramuddin said, “We then contacted the people from the mobile numbers written on the cards and found that they have not received their cards. They include schoolchildren, women and professionals.”
On further investigation, it was found that these Aadhaar cards to be posted, were kept in the plastic bag and sold to the scrap dealer Imran by an unidentified person, while selling newspaper. However, it is also suspected that a parcel carrying these cards might have been misplaced.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Jalupura police station Likhma Ram said, “It appears to be a parcel of Aadhaar cards which were to be delivered by post.” He further added that the cards were supposed to be dispatched locally and the general post office might have displaced the parcel.
Soon after the reports of misplacement of cards were reported, the postal department was informed. The matter is under investigation.
