In an unfortunate turn of events, Bollywood superstar, Irrfan Khan breathed his last on 29th April this year. During his last few days he was admitted to the ICU, as he was suffering from the colon infection. The film, ‘Kahaani 2’ would the complete four years of its theatrical release date on December 2. The actors gardened great reviews for their screen presence even after the film couldn’t pull out the magic in comparison with its prequel. Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal bagged many accolades for getting into the skin of the characters. One of the lesser known fact about this movie is that, the late actor, Irrfan was signed in for a male lead’s role.
Reportedly, Irrfan was approached to play the male lead in the ‘Kahaani’, when the makers were searching for the male lead in 2014. When Sujoy Ghosh was still going to direct it under the title ‘Durga Rani Singh’. Vidya Balan was roped in to play the female lead. However, Vidya had to leave the project and to replace her, Kangana Ranaut was welcomed onboard. The actress, however, left the project for unknown reasons and Sujoy was again on the lookout for a new leading lady. There were reports that Deepika Padukone was also approached to play the role. In the end Irrfan had to quit the project due to the unexpected delays and Vidya went ahead doing this film with Arjun Rampal.
Talking about the film, ‘Kahaani 2’ was set in the backdrop of life of Vidya, who lives in a small town with Minnie, a girl with paralysis. When someone kidnaps Minnie, Vidya tries to save her, but she meets with an accident on the way, landing herself in a hospital.
