The IPL 2021 auction is taking place today(February 18, 2021) in Chennai. 292 players are going under the hammer with all-rounders being in great demand. The auction starts at 3 pm and has eight teams bidding for the players. A total of 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs.
Eight teams will be battling it out in the auction field to bag the cream players. The 8 franchises who are looking to bolster their squads are Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Several prominent names who could fetch big prices are Glenn Maxwell, Chris Morris, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Steven Smith, Harbhajan Singh, Kedar Jadhav, Karun Nair, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Marnus Labuschagne and Aaron Finch.
The auction was opened by IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel. He said, “VIVO is back on board with us, this edition will be known as VIVO IPL 2021. It has been a tough year for everyone but the sponsors stood by us.”
Chennai Super Kings franchise officials are wearing a special t-shirt for the auction, sporting MS Dhoni’s “Definitely Not” on the front.

There is a bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings for Glenn Maxwell. Glenn Maxwell sold to RCB for Rs 14.25 crore!.
The bidding has begun and Steve Smith has been sold to Delhi Capitals for 2.2 crores.
