IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Wriddhiman Saha & Delhi Capitals Amit Mishra Test COVID Positive

Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals’ Amit Mishra have tested positive for COVID-19. Saha’s news comes hours before the team’s scheduled IPL 2021 fixture against Mumbai Indians, and as a result, Tuesday’s match has been rescheduled.

Saha has become the third player from IPL’s bio-bubble to test positive for the virus. Delhi Capitals (DC) senior spinner Amit Mishra is also said to have tested positive for coronavirus. The development was confirmed by the BCCI.

Earlier two players from Kolkata Knight Riders: Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier had tested positive. So had two members of the Chennai Super Kings contingent: bowling coach L Balaji and a member of the maintenance staff tested positive. Therefore the game between Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore was put off. The match between Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals was also postponed. The CSK team is at present in quarantine. The BCCI has been contemplating moving the tournament in it’s entirety to Mumbai soon.

But as per recent reports due to the rising cases in the teams, the BCCI has decided to suspend the IPL 2021.

With as many as four players testing COVID-19 positive by Tuesday, IPL 2021 has been suspended for the time being, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told news agency ANI.
