The Delhi High Court extended the interim bail of former Union Minister P Chidambaram in the INX media case till September 28. The bench also gave the Enforcement Directorate (ED) an additional time period of four weeks to reply on the case.
Hearing the anticipatory bail plea of the senior Congress leader, accused in the INX media scam, Justice A K Pathak asked the investigative agency not to take any coercive action until the next date. Though the Central Bureau of Investigation had said in its reply that they have submitted their report in the court, the bench gave additional time to check the details of the money laundering case.
Chidambaram who was made accused in the case was granted anticipatory bail till Wednesday, which the bench extended till September 28. Representing the former Union finance minister, senior advocates Dayan Krishnan, Pramod Kumar Dubey, Ramesh Gupta and Mohit Mathur appeared in court. The bench also extended the interim protection against arrest granted to P Chidambaram in the CBI case, reports NDTV.
Earlier, case was filed against Chidambaram in the Rs. 305-crore INX Media case, whose hearing was scheduled for May 31. he was granted an anticipatory bail in the first week of July. Similarly, Chidambaram has also been made accused in the Rs 3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis deal.
