Personal Life:
Former Tamil Nadu CM, Jayalalithaa was born on February 24, 1948 in Melukote of Mandya district (Mysore which is now Karnataka). Soon she was named after her grandmother, Koamalavalli. When she turned one year old, her parents named her Jayalalithaa, the named which is derived from two the houses she stayed in Mysore i.e. Jaya Vilas and Lalitha Vilas respectively. She perceived her education from the Sacred Heart Matriculation School in Chennai. She was quite fluent in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam and English languages and she loved reading. Apart from being good at her studies, she had great interest in classical music, western classical piano and different types of dances. While perceiving her studies she began performing on stage, which went to attract great offers for her.
Acting Career:
Jayalalithaa marked her debut stage performance in 1960 at the Rasika Ranjani Sabha in Mylapore. It was then Shivaji Ganesan(the chieft guest) who advised Jayalalithaa to kickstart acting career. At the age of 15 she made her acting debut in a lead role Chinnada Gombe (1964), while she was still perceiving her school studies. Her parents allowed her to shoot this film only on one condition, if the director wraps up the work during her free. Badukuva Daari (1966), Mavana Magalu (1965), Nanna Kartavya (1965), and Chinnada Gombe (1964) are among her noted films. In no time she became a sensation and also holds the record for having the highest number of silver jubilee in her acting career. She was also one of the highest paid actress during 1965 to 1980.
Political Career:
It was Marudhur Gopalan Ramachandran (also known as MGR) who introduced Jaya into the politics. MGR served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for three successive terms. The duo knew each other after they had shared the screen space in more than 12 films. She served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over sixteen years. What set Jayalalithaa up as ‘Amma’ (mother) in the hearts people from Tamil Nadu, were the social welfare projects she carried out for the people. While her political career was on the peak, she worked towards empowering women in the state. She also formed the first all women police station in India. The Jayalalithaa led government in 2003 had also banned the sale of all lotteries, including online, within the territory of the state, despite the risk of the state losing revenue.
