INOX Slams Decision Of Gulabo Sitabo Releasing On Amazon Prime
INOX Slams Gulabo Sitabo's Premiere Announcement On Amazon Prime, Warns Of 'Retributive Measures'
The makers of quirky dramedy Gulabo Sitabo announced that the movie is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video. The movie featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana will premiere on June 12, 2020. This makes the Shoojit Sircar film the first Bollywood film in COVID times to bypass a theatrical release.
The decision by the makers to opt for a digital release has not gone well with INOX Theatres.
INOX Theatres released a long statement in which they’ve slammed the decision of Shoojit Sircar to bypass the theatrical release of Gulabo Sitabo. They want other production houses to not follow this trend. ini
They wrote, “INOX would like to express extreme displeasure and disappointment on an announcement made by a production house today, to release their movie directly on an OTT platform by skipping the theatrical window run. The decision of the production house to deviate from the globally prevalent content windowing practice is alarming and disconcerting.”

Gulabo Sitabo is written by Juhi Chaturvedi and directed by Shoojit Sircar. It was initially supposed to release on 17 April. But the coronavirus lockdown led to theatres shutting down. Therefore the theatrical releases are being postponed indefinitely.
Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi will also have digital release directly on Amazon Prime. There are reports that Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Janhvi Kapoor’s Gunjan Saxena, Ishaan Khatter-Ananya Panday-starrer Khaali Peeli and Anurag Kashyap’s Ludo are also getting a digital release.
