For a very long there has been a debate on banning the Chinese application, TikTok in India. The application in recent times was subjected to garner negative attention for its content policies. On Monday, Indian government announced about banning the long list of 59 Chinese-owned applications, including TikTok, ShareIt, UC Browser, Likee, WeChat, and few amongst other. TikTok issues its first statement after the ban was imposed on it.
TikTok took its official Twitter handle and shared a statement, which read, “We have been invited to meet concerned government stakeholders for an opportunity to respond and submit clarifications. TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and has not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign government, including the Chinese government. Further we are requested to in the future we would not do so. We place the highest importance on user privacy and integrity.”
Currently, TikTok has been removed from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store. Apparently, theban on the Chinese apps comes in the backdrop of current tension at the borders of Ladakh with Chinese troops and also making India a self reliant country after its hits with the COVID-19 crises. PM Modi in his recent speech even urged the netizens to support India made brands and tech companies to support the nation become a self reliant nation.
