An Apache Guardian attack helicopter has been formally handed over to the Indian air force yesterday. It is the first of its kind in India. The event happened in the Boeing facility in Arizona.
The Indian Air Force tweeted yesterday about the good news
The contract had been signed for 22 helicopters in 2015. The first batch of helicopters will be shipped in by July. The air and ground crew have undergone training in Fort Rucker, Alabama at the army facilities of US. several Government officials from the US were also present during the handing over.
The addition of AH-64 E (I) helicopter is a significant step towards modernisation of IAF’s helicopter fleet. The helicopter has been customized to suit IAF’s future requirements and would have significant capability in mountainous terrain.
The helicopter can easily carry out precision attacks at standoff ranges and operate in hostile airspace with threats from the ground. The helicopter has the capacity to transmit and receive battlefield picture, to and from the weapon systems through data networking, makes it a lethal acquisition.
All these things are going to be very beneficial in the future for the Indian Army. The country is moving closer to better defence facilities.
