India joins United States, Russia, China in hypersonic Missile club, successfully tests Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle
India has joined the ranks of the United States, Russia, and China in Hypersonic Missile Club. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has today successfully flight tested the indigenously developed Hypersonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle. The vehicle is capable of cruising at a speed of 6 Mach and can cruise at an altitude of 32.5 in just 20 seconds.
The Agency said that the test was led by DRDO chief Satheesh Reddy and his hypersonic missile team. The HSTDV performed on all parameters, including combustion chamber pressure, air intake, and control guidance.

Defense minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for their feat. He said that this technology is a landmark achievement towards realising PM’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

As reported by sources to PTI, dual-use technology will have multiple civilian applications also. It can be used for launching satellites at a low cost too
The development is significant as it comes on the backdrop of PM Modi’s call for a self-reliant India.
