India has recorded 34,403 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The nation has also recorded 320 deaths in the last 24 hours. This pushes the overall caseload to 3,33,81,728 and total death toll to 4,44,248. It is as per data released by the Ministry of Health on Friday (September 17, 2021).
The country also recorded 37,950 recoveries in the last 24 hours. It takes the total recoveries to 3,25,98,424 and the active caseload now stands at 3,39,056.
Out of the total 34,403 cases recorded in the country, Kerala added has recorded 22,182 COVID cases and over 178 deaths. Whereas Maharashtra reported 3,783 new cases. Maharashtra has the highest overall cases, but the surge in Kerala has been a cause of national worry.
Addressing a press conference, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said, “Almost 68 per cent of the total cases reported nationally are from Kerala. Kerala has over 1.99 lakh active cases, while five other states — Mizoram, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra — have more than 10,000 active cases. The weekly positivity rate for the last 11 weeks is below 3 per cent.”
The World Health Organization said, Over 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in WHO-affiliated South-East Asian countries. It further added that India has administered a total of 76,57,17,137 doses as of yesterday.
