India ranks 66th in Global Passport Index, up by 9 spots
As far as Global Passport Index is concerned, which is based on the visa-free score of passports’, Indian passport is currently ranked 66th in the world. The Indian passport leaped by nine notches compared to the previous year.
The chart of annual passport index showed that Singapore possess the world’s strongest passport with access to as many as 165 countries followed by Germany, Denmark and Sweden.
War ravaged Afghanistan was left with a wooden spoon finishing at the 91 st spot with 22 point. Iraq at 90 with 26 score, Syria at 88 with 29 score and Somalia at 87 with 34 score were preceded by Afghanistan.
According to the citizenship planning firm Henley and Partners’ annual passport index, who prepared the results, passports are ranked by the number of countries the holders can visit without visa. Also the number of countries the holders of passports can go and seek visa or arrival, visitor’s permit or Electronic Travel Authority on arrival.
This particular Passport Index is now the most popular interactive online tool to display, sort and rank the passports around the world. The index prepares the ranking of the passports by the cross-border access they allow and assigns them a visa-free score. This visa-free score is prepared taking in consideration the number of countries these passport holders can visit without visa or visa on arrival.
