Asian Games 2018: India men’s squash team settle for bronze after 0-2 semi-final defeat against Hong Kong
Defending Champion India settled for bronze in the men’s squash semi-final after losing to Hong Kong 0-2 at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta on Friday.
The team that had Saurav Ghosal, Harinder Pal Sandhu, Ramit Tandon and Mahesh Mangaonkar failed to live up to their champion status against a superior Hong Kong, who had won the bronze in 2014.
Saurav, who was reportedly not fully fit went down 0-3 to Max Lee, losing the three games 7-11, 9-11, 11-13, while Sandhu lost 1-3 against Leo Au to knock themselves out of the competition.
Hong Kong will now meet the winner of the semi-final contest between Pakistan and Malaysia in the semis.
Meanwhile, the women’s team had earlier caused a big upset by defeating favourites Malaysia 2-0 in the semi-finals to reach their second successive final in the squash team championships. They will next take on Hong Kong in the final on Saturday.
