India crush Kenya 3-0 in a packed stadium
Team India displayed yet another astounding performance at the Mumbai Football Arena yesterday. Sunil Chetri and many famed sports personalities requested fans across the city to come and support their national side. Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Chetri himself used different social media platforms to reach out to fans. Abuse us, shout at us, criticize us but do it in our faces is what Sunil Chetri added.
It was Sunil Chetri’s 100th International appearance for India and it turned out to be a memorable one. Packed house with no empty seats despite heavy rains was a commendable effort by fans. The chants of India, India were echoing around the stadium. Couldn’t have been a better way for Chetri to celebrate his humongous achievement. Post match he went on Twitter to appreciate and thank all the fans that were part of the sweet victory against Kenya.
Scoreline suggests that it was a piece of cake for the home side but that wasn’t the case. Kenya displayed some great spirit and fight throughout the game. It was even Stevens till the 68th minute. But how could Sunil Chetri not score on such an historic day. He draws the first blood followed by a thunderous penalty by Jeje. Injury time saw another goal from the Indian skipper.
Rains were getting heavier but there was nothing that could stop fans from celebrating this astonishing moment. India had done a commendable job and there was every reason for players and fans to jump in joy. India play their next match on 7th June at the same venue against New Zealand.
