India Coronavirus Crises: List of neighboring countries helping in COVID-19 fight

The second pandemic Coronavirus wave hit India so badly. The highest single-day spike as of by Sunday i.e April 15 broke all its previous records. The nation logged in 3,49,691 fresh COVID-19 infections, which made it the highest ever spike ever since the pandemic hit the country. As the cases keep surging, state hospitals deal with vaccine as well as oxygen crises. Social media is filled with devastating pictures and videos, wherein people are seen struggling to get fair treatment. Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat and few other states have emerged as the highest contributors in the second wave. List of nations helping India in COVID-19 fight:

UK

UK is sending ventilators and oxygen concentrator devices to India, to help the country manage the covid-19 outspread. The press statement from the British High Commission in New Delhi said that the UK was despatching- more than 600 pieces of vital medical equipment to support the country in its fight against Covid-19.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson also shared on his Twitter handle, “We stand side by side with India in the shared fight against COVID-19. Vital medical equipment is on its way from the UK to India to help stop the tragic loss of life from the virus and we’ll continue to work closely with the Indian government during this difficult time.”

US

Anthony Fauci (Director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) states that the US is sending “oxygen supplies, Covid-19 tests, drug treatments, and personal protective equipment.” He said this on the ABC News channel. Health experts are also pushing the US to lift the ban on raw materials for vaccine production and redirect its stockpile of AstraZeneca doses to India. Bloomberg reported that the Biden administration is sitting on 20 million doses of the Oxford University developed drug, which has yet to be approved by health regulators.

Singapore

Singapore state investment firm Temasek stated that the medical equipment, including much-needed oxygen-related supplies, were being sent from Singapore as India faces a surge in COVID-19 cases. Four cryogenic oxygen cylinders, donated by India’s Tata Group, landed in the Indian state of West Bengal on Saturday evening, said Temasek on the social media platforms.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is shipping around 80 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen to India. This activity is being carried out in cooperation with the Adani group and British multinational company Linde.

France

France will send oxygen respiratory equipment to India soon, the office of French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday. The Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Twitter, “Alarmed by the epidemiological situation in India. We are ready to support.”

Germany

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Sunday expressed that her “sympathy over the terrible suffering.” Germany will send oxygen and medical aid to India in the coming days to help it tackle its COVID-19 crisis stated Foreign Minister Heiko Maas recently.

China

Foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian stated that Beijing is “ready to provide support and help according to India’s need.” Suspending old rivalries and the spokesperson stated that they are currently in talks with the Indian health officials to aid in the COVID-19 fight.
