Total COVID-19 cases in India reaches 258; woman who visited Scotland tests positive in Bengal
India reported 50 fresh cases of COVID-19, highest in a day, taking the tally to 223 on Friday. Today, The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has said that the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases has risen to 258. Of the total 258, 219 are Indian nationals and 39 are foreigners. They further added that the total number of people who have been cured, discharged or migrated stood at 23.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed with chief ministers ways and preparedness of the states to check and prevent the spread of coronavirus, which has claimed more than 10,000 lives globally. States and Union Territories too are taking all the needed precautions to contain the spread.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has declared that all workplaces in major cities, including in the country’s commercial hub Mumbai and Pune, will remain closed till March 31. As per the PTI report, The number of confirmed cases in the state stands at 63 after 11 more individuals tested positive since Friday evening.
Delhi Chief Minister announced shutting down of all malls in the national capital but exempted grocery stores and pharmacies in them. A woman with a recent travel history to Scotland has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, making it the third confirmed case in West Bengal. A new case of coronavirus has been reported in Gujarat after a 52-year-old man who returned from Sri Lanka tested positive in Vadodara. The total number of infected individuals in the state has risen to eight. Kerala confirmed 12 more COVID-19 cases on Friday. With the new patients included, Kerala has a total of 37 active cases now.
The Indian Railways on Friday said it has cancelled 3,700 trains from Saturday midnight till Sunday at 10 pm on the PM’s appeal of a shutdown on Sunday. Go Air too has suspended its flights for Sunday, whereas Indigo has announced to operate only 60 percent of its fleet on Sunday.
