India has crossed a new milestone in its battle against the coronavirus pandemic. The nation has touched the 100 crores covid vaccination mark including both the first and the second doses. A total of 100 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far, as per the Cowin portal.
According to the government’s Cowin website, over 70 crore people have been administered the first dose. 29 crore have received the full doses of the coronavirus vaccine. The top five states which have administered the highest number of doses are Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the efforts of health workers and tweeted, “India scripts history. We are witnessing the triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore Indians. Congrats India on crossing 100 crore vaccinations. Gratitude to our doctors, nurses and all those who worked to achieve this feat. #VaccineCentury.”

The milestone will be celebrated at the Red Fort with some songs and dance programmes. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya will launch a song by singer Kailash Kher. He will also launch an audio-visual film at the Red Fort for the occasion. The largest national flag, weighing around 1,400 kg, will be raised at the Red Fort, news agency PTI reported. The government had also planned to make announcements over loudspeakers on trains, planes, and ships. The event to commemorate the achievement will begin at 12.30 pm.
