One of the most important festivals of India that is celebrated across the nation is Independence Day. It is the day when all the sacrifices of young and old finally bore fruit and the Britishers left our country. Yes, on the 15th of August in 1947, India got freedom from the British rule after long years of slavery. The day is celebrated with passion in the national Capital where the prime minister of India hoists the Indian flag from the Red Fort, Delhi. After the flag hoisting, National Anthem song is sung and twenty-one gunshots are fired to salute and honour the Indian flag.

The song will rouse the patriot in you.  Directed by Anurag Singh, Kesari is a period drama which is based on the Battle of Saragarhi of 1897. It also featured Parineeti Chopra in a pivotal role.

2. Main Lad Jaana – Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019)

The song ‘Main Lad Jaana’ from the movie ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ is an intense Punjabi anthem and shows how the lead actor Vicky Kaushal gets ready for real-life surgical strikes. Along with Vicky Kaushal, the movie also stars Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, and Kirti Kulhari. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the movie is based on the surgical attack carried by Indian Armed forces in 2016 in retaliation of the URI attack that killed many armed personnel.

3. Raazi– Ae Watan (2018)

The song has male and female versions and both the songs are capable of giving listeners some good goosebumps. The song is sung by Arijit Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan and composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. ‘Ae Watan’ celebrates the true spirit of patriotism and shows how Alia’s character Sehmat accepts all the challenges and risks her own life to serve the country. It showcases that the Indian females too are ready to fight for their nation’s freedom.

4. Tu Bhoola Jise – Airlift (2016)

The song ‘Tu Bhoola Jise’ is an emotional number, written by Kumaar, composed by Amaal Mallik and sung by K.K. The song beautifully features patriotism and unity of Indians during the crisis. ‘Vande Mataram’ towards the end of the song is sure to give you goosebumps. The movie aptly displays the love the nation has for her citizens wherever they are.

5. Thaare Vaaste – Parmanu (2018)

Sung by Divya Kumar and composed by Sachin-Jigar, the song portrays the hardships faced by the Indian Armed Forces during the secret mission. The movie is based on the nuclear tests carried by the Indian government in 1998 in Pokhran, Rajasthan. The mission allowed India to declare itself as the nuclear state. It is one of the best John Abraham films.

6. Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo-Lata Mangeshkar(26th January 1963)

You must have heard this melodious song umpteen times, still never get tired of hearing it again and again. A true classic, the non-Bollywood song was sung by Lata Mangeshkar as an ode to the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the 1962 Sino-Indian war. Penned by Kavi Pradeep, the beautiful song is a must-listen. It had left the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in tears.

7. Maa Tujhe Salaam – Vande Mataram(1997)

Maa Tujhe Salaam is the title track of AR Rahman’s 1997 studio album Vande Matram. The album has earned the distinction of being the largest non-film album. One of the most popular song and sung by AR Rahman in his melodious voice, Maa Tujhe Salaam emphasizes the diversity of the country and instils patriotism as well as unity among the people of the nation. It is a perfect ode to our country known for its UNITY IN DIVERSITY.
