Independence Day 2018: Delhi Metro parking lots to remain shut
As a part of the security measures due to Independence Day celebrations, parking facilities at the metro stations in the national capital will not be available from Tuesday morning till Wednesday 2 pm on August 15, officials said on August 13.
However, a senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said there would be no restrictions on entry and exit at any of the metro stations.
“Parking facilities will not be available at the Delhi metro stations from 6 am on Tuesday i.e August 14 till 2 pm on Wednesday i.e, August 15 as a part of the security measures undertaken on the occasion of Independence Day,” he said.
The DMRC has directed all the parking contractors to use the opportunity for cleaning the parking lots thoroughly in the spirit of ‘Swachh Bharat’.
The officials will also be deployed to inspect the parking lots for strict compliance with its instruction, the official said.
Through its various corridors, the Delhi metro which is a 296-km long network with 214 stations connecting even the most remote parts of the city to central Delhi and linking the national capital seamlessly to the neighbouring areas.

To celebrate Independence Day, Delhi Metro has now started a special Freedom Express train in honour of freedom fighters which has their photographs in it. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh flagged off the Metro train from Race Course Metro Station.

The six-coach special Metro train displays pictures of freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, B R Ambedkar and several luminaries from different walks of life and is designed to spread inspirational messages.
