In a satire video, trans men audition for old Scarlett’s role

A group of transgender men have come together to feature in a parody video where they are mock- auditioning for cisgender roles that Scarlett Johansson played in her career.

The parody video came after the controversy over Johansson’s casting as a trans man in the upcoming film Rub and Tug, which will be directed by Rupert Sanders.

This film is a drama centered on Dante “Tex” Gill, who notoriously ran a string of massage parlors in 1970s Pittsburgh that were believed to be fronts for brothels. According to Gill’s obituary, Gill was assigned female at birth, but preferred to be known as a man, was called Mr. Gill, dressed in men’s suits and was believed to have undergone the initial stages of gender reassignment.

This video is produced by Into and released on Friday which further articulated the conflict.

In the clip, Justin Chow, Scott Turner Schonefield, D’Lo and Rocco Kayiatos take turns “auditioning” for Johansson’s previous roles, including Samantha in Her, Charlotte in Lost in Translation, Natasha Romanoff in The Avengers and Anna in He’s Just Not That Into You.
