ICANN Is Worried About Cyber Attacks That Can Hijack Domains

ICANN the body that manages the top-level domain system had pointed to a serious security threat of future where attacks can impact the Domains destroying overall integrity of information travels in WWW. According to an article published by Yahoo Finance, ICANN made a call in response to the reports of rising malicious activity targeting the DNS infrastructure.

ICANN solely manages the domain system and a warning like this cannot be ignored. In the same episode American and British security firms also warned about series of attack from Iranian hackers who are trying to steal email passwords and sensitive data from various government and private companies.

As a resolution, ICANN will for the time-being rely on DNSSEC or security to lock down domains with signatures to point them to the right source. This is enough for the handling of current situations ICANN and security agencies will have to come with a more concrete solution for the health of WWW. Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the body that coordinates the top-level of domain name system (DNS) to ensure a stable and secure operation as well as universal resolvability, is suggesting that the cyber-attacks and hijack attempts could be state-sponsored and targeting friendly countries.

ICANN had issued security precaution for registries, registrar’s, resellers, and members from domain name industry, etc. to ensure max security for tackling the problem.
