Hyderabad: Man hacked with axe in police presence
Amid police presence, a man was hacked to death with an axe on broad daylight in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Police stood there as a mute spectator. The attacker is seen in a video standing jubilantly with his arms in the air.
The entire incident was captured on several mobiles of the people who witnessed the heinous act. In the viral video, two men can be seen chasing a man on a busy street in Rajendra Nagar and repeatedly striking him until he fell unconscious. After profusely bleeding, when the victim stopped moving, one of the attackers raise his arm as if he has achieved victory and walked.
According to eyewitnesses, three policemen were present at the spot, but they did not bother to stop them. Responding to the criticism that the police has received after the video went viral, an officer told NDTV in their defence, “the two policemen had gone to get their sticks.”
The more appalling is when a man was being lynched, a Cyberabad police vehicle passes by the spot, but it doesn’t stop. At the end of one of the video, the attacker can be seen buttoning up his yellow shirt.
“Two policemen went to get their batons. By the time they returned, it was too late. Both the accused have been arrested,” Prakash Reddy, a police officer, told NDTV.
When asked about the police vehicle, Prakash Reddy, told NDTV, “that the patrol car didn’t go away. They went ahead, parked on the side of the road and came back. They couldn’t have stopped in the middle of the road as that would have led to a traffic jam. They returned to the spot and arrested the attackers.”
The victim has been identified as Ramesh, who was the main accused in a murder that took place in December last year. One Mahesh Goud was killed and his body burnt and thrown near a temple.
When the victim was returning from the court today when Krishna Goud, Mahesh Goud’s father, and Laxman Goud, his uncle, attacked him with an axe. Police suspect that the revenge may have been the reason behind the murder.
