In an attempt to make an environment where the children and women are safer, the Union government launched a portal. Under this portal, citizens can file complaints about circulation of child pornography, sexually explicit materials and online sexual abuse. The complaint will automatically be registered as FIR, leading to action against the offenders.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched the ‘cybercrime.gov.in’ on Thursday. According to the government officials, this portal is convenient and user-friendly and will help in the prevention of crimes against women and children, commonly known as — cyber crime prevention against women and children (CCPWC).
Elaborating more details about the portal, Joint Secretary of Union Home Ministry, Madan M Oberoi said, as reported by Deccan Chronicle, “This will not only help the victims and complainants but also civil society organisations and responsible citizens to anonymously report complaints pertaining to child pornography, child sexual abuse material or sexually explicit material such as rape and gang rape.” He added that the complainants can report cases without disclosing their identity.
With the help of this portal, the complainants can help the police by uploading the URL, carrying objectionable content. The cases registered will be handled by police of respective states and Union Territories. Also, the complainants can even track the progress report of the case filed in their mobile phone, provided if they opt for it.
According to the terms of the portal, the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) will proactively identify such objectionable content. The records bureau will also ask the intermediaries to remove it. The centre has notified NCRB to issue notices under Section 79(3)b of the IT Act, the statement said.
