Himachal Pradesh: Bus plunges into gorge leaves 9 dead, injures 25
Yet another tourist bus plunged into a gorge at Kiari Nallah on Solan-Shimla border in Himachal Pradesh leaving at least 9 people dead. According to news agency ANI, all the injured have been shifted to the hospital.
According to The Tribune, the private bus was travelling to Nahan from Renuka when it fell into a rivulet at Jalal Bridge in Sirmaur district.
All the injured are being treated in the local hospital. The rescue operation is underway.
On November 24, at least 25 people died after a bus plunged into a canal in Karnataka’s Mandya on Saturday. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of deceased in the bus accident.
The incident took place after the bus carrying 30 passengers fell into VC canal of the Cauvery river in Kanaganamaradi village of the Pandavapura taluk around 12:25 pm. According to initial reports, most of the deceased are believed to be school students.
Among the four who died on the spot, three were women. Five others, who were critically injured, succumbed to their injuries later on.
Thakur, who reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation, said prima facie the accident happened due to the negligence of the bus driver. According to eyewitnesses, the bus was speeding while crossing the bridge.
Most of the deceased are locals who are yet to be identified.
