Maharashtra is among the list of states which have contributed with the highest number of Coronavirus in the second wave. On Friday i.e May 8, Health Minister, Rajesh Tope says that the Serum Institute of India’s, Adar Poonawalla has told the Maharashtra government that the department is unable to supply Covishield doses until May 26. Urgent supply of doses of Covaxin for beneficiaries waiting for their second jabs.
“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had a telephone conversation with the Serum chief in London on the issue and was informed that they could not give the doses till May 26. There should be no doubt that Covid vaccination is our topmost priority and no stone is left unturned to purchase them directly from the manufacturers,” said Rajesh Tope while talking to the media according to a report by The Indian Express.
He said that the state is ready to purchase a maximum number of doses, as “we have the capability of vaccinating across 5,000 to 7,000 centres and at least 8 lakh to 10 lakh doses daily.” Until May 6, the state has administered the vaccine to 1.73 lakh beneficiaries.
As of by Friday, Maharashtra reported around 54,022 new Coronavirus cases, 37,386 recoveries and 898 deaths in the span of 24-hrs.
