One of the best batsmen in modern-day cricket, Indian captain Virat Kohli turns celebrates his 30th birthday today. While there are many who have already started comparing him with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli, who likes to keep his feet firmly grounded, is indeed one of the genius thinkers when it comes to batting.
Kohli lost his father Prem Kohli, aged 54, when he was just 18 years old, while he was playing a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi against Karnataka. After his father’s death, he returned to the field and scored a gritty 90 to save the match for his team.
He led India to a stunning U-19 World Cup victory in Malayasia in 2008.
Kohli rose to fame with a masterful 183 in the 2012 edition of the Asia Cup against Pakistan where he tore apart a bowling line-up comprising of the likes of Saeed Ajmal, Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi.
Recently, he became the fastest batsman in ODI cricket to score 10,000 runs surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
On 11 December 2017, he tied the knot with longtime girlfriend Anuskha Sharma, whom he sees as an inspiration.
