Zoya Akhtar’s directorial Gully Boy featuring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in leading roles has been selected for the Oscars. Yes, the musical drama is India’s official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards to be held in 2020. The news was shared by Zoya’s actor and filmmaker brother Farhan Akhtar.

After the announcement of Gully Boy going to Oscars 2020, the lead actors took to social media to express their excitement. Ranveer and Alia thanked the cast and the crew of the movie in a note shared by them on Instagram.

FFI secretary general Supran Sen told news agency PTI, “Gully Boy was zeroed in from a list of 27 film. There were 27 films in the running this year but it was a unanimous decision to select Gully Boy. This year, the selection committee was lead by actor-filmmaker Aparna Sen.”
‘Gully Boy’ showcases the story of an aspiring rapper named Murad ( Ranveer Singh), who dreams of making it big in the Indian music industry. Alia Bhatt plays his love interest in the film. The film also features Kalki Koechlin, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Vijay Raaz and Vijay Varma in pivotal roles. The film is inspired by the lives and work of rappers Naezy and Divine.
