Most of the Google Services in China are blocked but there are still millions of Chinese speakers living across the world are using Google Assistant on phone. Yes, according to reports, Million of Chinese Speakers have access to Google Assistant, which is an artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant developed by Google.
As per the report, Support for Traditional Chinese was added to Assistant last year, and now it works with Simplified Chinese too.
Confirming the development, the official support page for Assistant languages said that Simplified Chinese is currently only supported on phones — smart displays, smart speakers, smartwatches, and other form factors will have to wait.
Notably, the Simplified Chinese refers to the text displayed on the screen, and it’s not clear if anything other than Mandarin for spoken word is supported.
You should be noted that in order to use Google Assitant in China, you are required to have Android 5.0 at least, and more than 1GB of memory, and your phone has to be set to the language. When you tap and hold on the home button, you will get the Google Assistant onboarding instead of Screen Search.
This marked the first-time Assistant can speak Chinese, even if it’s only one variant of the language, but we hope it paves the way for more.
