On Wednesday, the Goa government has announced a lockdown from the evening of April 29 till the morning of May 3, announced Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant amid the second wave of Coronavirus.
News agency ANI tweeted: “Lockdown announced in state from 29th April 7 pm to the morning of 3rd May. Essential services & industrial activities allowed, public transport to remain shut. Casinos, hotels, pubs remain closed. Borders to remain open for essential service transportation: Goa CM Pramod Sawant.”
Here’s what’s allowed & what’s not:
- Casinos and bars will remain shut
- Weekly markets will not be allowed
- Public transport to remain shut.
- Essential services & industrial activities allowed.
- Dine-ins will not be allowed.
- Restaurants allowed to operate their kitchens for home deliveries.
- Tourists to not step out of their hotel rooms.
Pramod Sawan, Chief Minister of Goa at a press conference in Panaji said, “People should not panic. All grocery stores and essential services will be allowed to operate, I also urge migrant labourers not to leave the state. If people do not step out for the next four days we will be successful in breaking the chain of this surge.”
Earlier today, CM Sawant had a meeting with panchayat members including those from the northern coastal belt of Calangute and Candolim which have been declared as containment zones.
The announcement came a day after Goa reported 2,110 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday and 31 deaths, taking the tally to 81,908 and the death count to 1,086. The government also announced that several localities will be declared containment zones.
