Mumbai Police have been tracking down social media pages of high-profile personalities concerning fake and paid followers, they are likely to question celebrities on the same. The fraud was brought to light by Bollywood playback singer Bhumi Trivedi when she filed a complaint earlier this month on 11 July. Now, according to a report in Zee News, cricket commentator & VJ Gaurav Kapur and RJ Roshan Abbas have been summoned by Mumbai Police in regards to the same.
News agency tweeted on Wednesday, “Cricket commentator & VJ Gaurav Kapur and RJ Roshan Abbas summoned by Mumbai Police SIT for investigation in fake followers racket case: Mumbai Police Sources”
CEO of Chtrbox, Pranay Swaroop is under the radar of the Mumbai Police Crime Branch in connection with fake social media followers. Crime Branch called him for further investigation, however, he denied to visit due to the COVID-19 pandemic and being understaffed and stated that the documents about his clients are currently unavailable.
On Saturday, Pranay was also questioned by Crime Branch under CrPC section 160 and told to provide details of his company’s income for the last four years.
Earlier, there were reports of Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone were also questioned by Mumbai Police in regards to the fake followers’ scam. Reportedly, many high-profile people, including some Bollywood celebrities and sportspersons, allegedly paid money to get followers.
