Actress, Richa Chadha got the breakthrough in the glitter world of Bollywood, after her performances in the film, ‘Gangs Of Wasseypur’. Did you know, how much the actress got paid for portraying the role of ‘Nagma Khatoon’? The actress apparently in her in-dept blog post revealed about the not getting paid any kind of royalties for her this film, despite it was hailed as one of the box-office hits. She also highlighted, that actors in India aren’t given residuals for their work and this could be the reason why yesteryear actors were reportedly left penniless in their final days.
The actress in her blog post revealed that, she was paid Rs 2.5 lakhs ‘for both parts’ of her breakout hit, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. She wrote, “Kashyap (Director Anurag) took a chance on me, and for that I am forever grateful. I didn’t even expect to be paid for a break like that. The film went on to become a cult hit. My continuing career is testament to that.”
She further mentioned, “If I am not wrong, again, (going by rules for residual payments in other film industries) even if I were to earn royalty of this film, (*if I worked under the SAG guidelines, I would only be getting a small percentage, under different categories capped at a maximum of 6.2 percent). Does it make sense that a huge star like Parveen Babi allegedly didn’t have enough money for her treatment in her final years? Ditto Hangal Saab? Or that Bhagwan Dada lived in a chawl in his final years?”.
Confirming to the actress’ claim, the director of the film, Anurag Kashyap shared tweets post. He wrote, “She is right. Most actors and crew got paid similar amounts or less and I had to forfeit my entire fees to make GOW. Funny thing is we still own 50%IPR on GOW and we have never seen a penny on it or know about it’s income. For the studio it’s still a flop”.
