It is one of the most loved and awaited festivals in India that is loved by all.  The ten-day-long reverie is packed with fun and frolic. But as you know festivals in the country is incomplete with some special delectable sweets. Here Are 7 Ganesh Chaturthi Recipes To Prepare At Home:

1. Ukadachi Modak:

Ingredients Of Modak
To make Ukad

  • 2 Cups Rice flour
  • 4 tsp Glutinous rice flour
  • 2 Cups Water
  • A pinch of Salt
  • 2 tsp Ghee (clarified butter)
  • To make stuffing:
  • 2 Cups Coconut, shredded
  • 2 Cups Jaggery
  • 4 Tbsp poppy seeds
  • Cardamom powder
  • Cashew nuts and raisins, roasted

 
Prepare Ukad:

  • Mix rice flour and glutinous flour well. Seive 2 to 3 times.
  • Boil water and add a pinch of salt along with a tsp of ghee and pour rice flour. Mix well.
  • Cover with a damp cloth and keep aside for 10 minutes.

Prepare the Stuffing:

  • In a pan, roast the poppy seeds.
  • Once they are roasted well add the shredded coconut and jaggery.
  •  Mix everything well. Finally, add cardamom powder and cashew nuts. The stuffing is ready.

Prepare Modak:

  • Take ukad, wet hands with water and oil to knead Ukad into a soft dough.
  •  Take a small ball to flatten it a little and fill it with the stuffing.
  • Pinch the ends and gather them in the centre and seal them.
  • Keep the Modaks covered with a wet cloth as they can dry out.
  • Heat up 1 inch of water in Idly cooker, put one small round pot, cover that place with small thali or chalni.
  • On top of the chalni place a banana leaf, place Modak on leaf, leaving enough space around each Modak.
  • Steam for 10 minutes over medium heat.
  • Modaks are ready to be served.

 2.Chocolate Modak:

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet glucose biscuits
  • 100 gms drinking chocolate powder
  • 1/4 tin condensed milk
  • 50 gms desiccated coconut powder
  • Cashews, Hazelnuts, Kishmish, Badaam (optional)
  • 5 Tbsp ghee

How to Make Chocolate Modak:

  • Powder the glucose biscuits well. Mix it with the drinking chocolate powder, milkmaid and four tablespoons of ghee.
  • Fry the cashews and hazelnuts in 1 tablespoon ghee.
  • Make a ball of the chocolate mix and while you do so, add one of the dry fruits in the centre
  • Complete by giving it the Modak shape. You can use moulds also.
    Roll the Modaks in desiccated coconut and serve chilled!

3. Rava Modak recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2cups of semolina or Rawa
  • 2 cups grated coconut
  • 1.5 cup powdered jaggery
  • 2.5 cups wate
  • 4 to 5 green cardamoms crushed and powdered
  • 2 teaspoon oil or ghee
  • salt as taste

Filling:

  • Mix the powdered jaggery with coconut in a pan on low flame.
  • Keep stirring the mixture as the jaggery melts and the mixture starts thickening until it thickens.
  • Do not overcook or it will turn hard. Keep aside to cool.

Covering:

  • Pour water in a saucepan, add oil and salt to it and boil it.
  • As the water boils add the semolina and keep stirring on low flame for 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Take the mixture down and cover the pan for 5to 6 minutes.
  • Then knead well and make a smooth dough. Knead till no lumps are left.
  • Take a lemon sized ball to flatten it on the palm of your hand and add a spoonful of coconut jaggery mix too.
  • Pinch the edges of the flatten dough and taking the edges to join them on the top. Your Rawa Modak is ready.

4. Modak Peda:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon Milk
  • 7-8 strands Saffron
  • 250 grams or 2 1/2 cups Khoya (Mawa) crumbled
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • Instructions
  • Crush the saffron stands in mortar and pestle. Add the saffron into warm milk and stir.
  • Take grated or crumbled Mawa and sugar in a pan. Turn the heat on medium.
  • Mix and cook with stirring constantly. Sugar will melt and it becomes paste-like.
  • Add saffron milk mixture. Mix and cook for 4-5 minutes till it thickens and fat oozes from the side.
  • Remove the mixture into a plate and let it become warm or cool to touch.
  • Grease the mould using ghee. While the Mawa mixture is still warm, start shaping using the mould.

5. Dry Fruit Modak:

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons Almonds
  • 3 tablespoons Cashew nuts
  • 8 Dates seeds removed and roughly chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Raisins (golden and black raisins)
  • ½ cup Desiccated coconut
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee (Clarified butter)
  • 1-2 teaspoons water if needed

Instructions

  • Take almonds and cashews in the grinder and make a powder out of it.
  • Now add dates, raisins and dry coconut and make a coarse mixture.
  • Now add ghee and form a dough.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of water if it does not bind
  • Remove that mixture into the plate.
  • Grease the Modak moulds with ghee.
  • Start shaping using a mould.
