The country is celebrating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2019. There are several events including marches, cleanliness drives and blood donation camps, planned to mark the day. Top BJP leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, visited Rajghat in the morning to pay homage to the father of the nation at Rajghat on Gandhi Jayanti. Rajghat is the resting place of the Father of the Nation.
The PM then proceeded to the Vijayghat, the resting place of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri, who also shares his birthday with Mahatma Gandhi.
Top Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and others were also present at the Rajghat to pay tributes. Congress workers will take a mass oath to carry forward Mahatma Gandhi’s vision. Congress leaders, led by party’s interim president Sonia Gandhi, will take out a Gandhi Sandesh padayatra from the party’s Delhi office.
BJP chief Amit Shah will flag off the party’s nationwide Gandhi Sankalp Yatra. In the evening, PM Modi will visit Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat to address 10,000 sarpanch’s. He will also declare the country open defecation-free and launch a war against plastic.
