At least seven people were killed and more than 30 injured when a boulder rolled down and hit people bathing in a waterfall in Riasi district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, a senior police officer said. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals.
The incident occurred around 3.30 pm at Siar Baba waterfall, a major attraction for holiday-makers, Senior Superintendent of Police Riasi Tahir Sajad Bhat told PTI.
According to news agency ANI, army and the police have commenced the search operation. However, more details are awaited.
On the night of 3 and 4 July, a massive landslide was triggered due to heavy rains near Behramgala in Poonch district, a defence spokesman said. About 50 vehicles and a large number of travellers got stranded on the stretch, he said adding that a call for help was received by the Army, which immediately sprang into action.

On 30th June 2018 Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir had sounded a flood alert on 29 June as the Jhelum river rose above the critical 21 feet mark at Sangam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district due to heavy rains over the past two days. The officials in the valley had sounded an alert at that point in time so as to avoid further distress being caused to the human lives.
A landslide at Gangroo near Ramsu along the 260-km long Jammu-Srinagar national highway – the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with rest of the country, left hundreds of vehicles, including the convoy carrying Amarnath pilgrims, stranded. The Amarnath pilgrims had reached Makarkoot when the landslide struck.
