Former WWE Superstar Miroslav Barnyashev, popularly known as Rusev, has announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19. Rusev, who now goes by Miro, was released by WWE earlier this year. Rusev announced on his Twitch channel, MIROtwch, that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
A few days ago, Rusev’s wife and WWE superstar Lana had announced that both her parents were Covid-19 positive. In addition, she said that her asthma-patient mother was shifted to ICU as she required oxygen.
Rusev had three reigns as the WWE United States Champion. He faced off against John Cena at WrestleMania 32 in his first run. Rusev was a fan favorite in the WWE during the last few years. Moreover, his ‘Rusev Day’ gimmick was extremely over with the audience as he became one of the top merchandise sellers for WWE. Despite playing a heel on-screen, Rusev turned out to be a fan favorite with the WWE Universe. However, he was released by WWE earlier this year due to cost-cutting in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since Lana is still employed by WWE, it remains to be seen whether she will be taken off the roster temporarily.
In the month of June, an NXT trainee tested positive for COVID-19. Ever since then, many athletes have stopped training there. This is not the case of COVID-19 in WWE. A few weeks back, WWE announcers Renee Young and Kayla Braxton had tested positive. WWE producer Jaime Noble had also tested positive.
While WWE is taking all measures to ensure safety, the cases are still increasing.
