Former Chief Justice Nazir-ul-Mulk elected to be the caretaker PM of Pakistan
Former chief justice Nasir-ul-Mulk has been named Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister to oversee the general election scheduled for July 25.
According to a report from Dawn, opposition leader Khursheed Shah announced Mulk’s name at a Press Conference in Islamabad followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
During the press conference, Prime Minister Abbasi said the caretaker Prime Minister must be someone “who no one can object to”.
Abbasi added, “His role as a caretaker PM will be in favour of the country and the democratic process.”
He then requested Khursheed to make the formal announcement.
As per reports, the name was chosen based on merit.
Shah also said that the national Assembly Speaker played an important role in deciding upon the name.
