Down and drowned under water for over a month now, Nagaland still awaits its 100 crore relief-fund from the Centre to help but that has not stopped them from donating Rs. 1 crore to Kerala.

The money, which has still not arrived, has affected the state’s attempt in rebuilding and helping the affected people and with the road network badly damaged, food and other helpful commodities are either being air-dropped or being carrying using small vehicles, reported the Times of India.

“We would be needing a lot of money for repairing the damaged infrastructure but as a priority, I have asked for just Rs 100 crore from the Centre as an advance relief to repair the damaged roads. I have met the Prime Minister and the home minister also. Nothing has come so far,” said Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in an interview with TOI.

12 people have died, over 4000 have been displaced by the flood. It has almost been three weeks – the money was asked in the first week of August – since the request has been made to the Centre. “The money will help restore surface communication to carry food and relief items to the affected people,” added Rio reported the daily.

His party is an ally of the BJP in Nagaland, but that has not helped them either in getting some quick help from the Centre. And although Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh had confirmed on Twitter of having spoken to the state CM regarding the situation in the flood-hit state, the help is yet to arrive.
