Farooq Abdullah takes a jibe at BJP says, ‘Lord Ram will not help BJP win 2019 elections’
National Conference Chief — Farooq Abdullah on Thursday attacked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for pushing the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. He took a jibe and said that Lord Ram will not help BJP win election.
“They (BJP) think that Lord Ram will win them the 2019 elections. The God will not help them win the elections, it is the people who will vote, neither Lord Ram nor Allah will vote,” former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir said.
Mounting pressure on Narendra Modi led government who had promised to build the temple after coming to power but it did not happen. The RSS had earlier said that the Supreme Court should make an early decision on the Ram Janmabhoomi land dispute in Ayodhya and the Union government should bring a legislation to remove hurdles, if any, in the way of the construction of a Ram temple at the site.
Last week, the apex court had deferred the Ram-Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid issue to next year.
In the meantime, Several Opposition parties, including the Congress, have accused the ruling BJP of polarising the nation over Ram Mandir-Babri Masjid issue ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
No doubt, Abdullah has been critical of BJP’s moves in the state following the breakdown of the coalition with People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the Jammu and Kashmir in June this year. However, the coalition collapsed resulting in the imposition of Governor’s rule in the state.
In September, Abdullah’s party threatened to boycott the state Assembly and Lok Sabha polls if the Centre does not take any appropriate steps to protect Article 35A.
On the other hand, BJP has alleged that PDP is siding with the separatists in the state to try and emerge as next ‘kingmaker’ in Jammu and Kashmir.
