Facebook is introducing a care emoji to express support and love during the time of quarantine. The care emoji has arms that are embracing a red heart. This care emoji is the first new introduction to Facebook emoji in over 4 years. In early 2015, Facebook t added five new emoji. These were the love, sadness, anger, wow and laughing emojis. The care emoji can be added to posts, comments, images, videos or other content.
“We’re launching new care reactions on Facebook app and Messenger as a way for people to share their support with one another during this unprecedented time,” spokesman Alexandru Voica said in a series of tweets on Friday. “We hope these reactions give people additional ways to show their support during the #COVID19 crisis.”
The new care symbol “will start rolling out next week globally and you can use it to react to posts, comments, images, videos, or other content on the app and Facebook.com,” Voica said.
In addition, Facebook’s mobile Messenger service is also getting a brand new emoji for itself. This Facebook care emoji is a multi-hued bluish-red beating heart.
Facebook and its messaging and video chat services have seen a surge in numbers as people turn to social media during the COVID-19.
Unlike other social media platforms, Facebook has not added a “dislike” button to its options. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said the company didn’t want to add what would amount to a “down-vote” option. Facebook has steered clear of including negative emotions to its emojis with the exception of the angry emoji.
