England thump spirited Australia in the 2nd ODI
Australia won the toss and elected to field first. With the weather being incalculable it appeared to be a good call by Tim Paine. England were without their star batsman Eoin Morgan whereas Michael Neser made way for D’Arcy Short for the visitors.
England started off well with a 42 run cameo upfront by Jonny Bairstow. He was well supported by Jason Roy who played around while bowlers were blasted all over the park by his opening partner. After Johnny Bairstow perished, Jason Roy opened his hands and looked as sumptuous as ever. He wasn’t distracted with the two rain intervals and went onto score 120 runs off 108 balls.
A blistering 91 run knock by Joss Butler ensured England reach a formidable total. Aussies lost their openers early in the form of D’Arcy Short and Travis Head. Shaun Marsh looked solid from the word go and he went onto make a commendable ton almost getting Australia through. He was running out of partners still he managed to make a game out of it with important cameo’s by Glenn Maxwell and Ashton Agar. Australia needed 40 from 20 when Shaun Marsh was cleaned up by Liam Plunkett.
