Tragedy has struck the Presley family again as Elvis Presley’s only grandson died on Sunday. The news was confirmed to AFP by his mother Lisa Marie Presley’s manager. Moreover, local media has reported that the death could be an apparent suicide.
Benjamin Keough, son of Lisa Marie Presley and American songwriter Danny Keough, was found in Calabasas near Los Angeles. The cause of death appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as police sources have told TMZ.
However, Manager Roger Widynowski gave no details about the death. He said that Lisa Marie Presley was “heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated”. “She adored that boy. He was the love of her life,” Widynowski said, adding she was “trying to stay strong” for her daughters. Lisa Marie Presley is Elvis’s only child from his marriage to actor Priscilla Presley.
While Benjamin was rarely spotted in public, his few photos show that he had a strong resemblance to his grandfather. Even Lisa Marie has described Keough’s resemblance to Elvis as “just uncanny.”
According to reports, Benjamin Keough had signed a USD 5 million record deal with Universal in 2009. He had also been present for Elvis’s 40th death anniversary at the star’s former home Graceland in 2017. Rock’n’roll legend Elvis Presley died in 1977 aged 42.
Frank Sinatra’s eldest daughter Nancy Sinatra took to twitter to post her condolences to the family. Nancy wrote, “I have known you since before your mama gave birth to you, never dreaming you would have pain like this in your life. I’m so very sorry.”
