Electoral College Makes it Official: Biden Won, Trump Lost
US Presidential Elections 2020: Electoral College makes it official- Joe Biden won, Donald Trump lost
Finally, it is out that Joe Biden has officially won the 2020 US Presidential race. The Electoral College has formally chosen Joe Biden as the nation’s next president. The presidential electors gave Biden a solid majority of 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232.
The state-by-state voting took on added importance this year because President Donald Trump’s refused to concede defeat. He also claims of nationwide electoral fraud.
Joe Biden delivered a forceful rebuke to President Donald Trump’s allegations. He said, “In this battle for the soul of America, democracy prevailed. We the people voted. Faith in our institutions held. The integrity of our elections remains intact. And so, now it is time to turn the page. To unite. To heal.”
Heightened security was in place as electors cast paper ballots. The results will be sent to Washington and tallied in a Jan. 6 joint session of Congress. It will be presided over by Vice President Mike Pence.
For the unversed, The US electoral system selects a number of electors from each state. These electors cast their ballot for the presidential candidate that carried their respective state in the election. This is called indirect universal suffrage. Biden has won with a huge margin.
Even with the Electoral College’s confirmation of Biden’s victory, some Republicans continued to refuse to acknowledge that reality.
