Election strategist Prashant Kishor to join Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) today

Having worked with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh in Indian politics as an election strategist, now Prashant Kishor is all set to make his own Political debut.

According to the report, Prashant Kishor is going to join Janata Dal-United on Sunday, in the presence of Bihar M Nitish Kumar at a meeting of the state executive in Patna. It was confirmed last week, Kishot will be making his political debut when he was having an interaction with students of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad. He said, he was “done with campaigning for individuals and he was ready for “electoral politics.”

Kishor took to microblogging site Twitter on Sunday morning and wrote, “Excited to start my new journey from Bihar!”

Kishor has shared a good relationship with Bihar CM since the 2015 Bihar Assembly elections, when his Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) campaign for the JDU leader. Nitish Kumar was the face of the Mahagathbandhan, comprising the JDU, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress party.

His campaign strategy led to a victory for Nitish Kumar in the state Assembly elections. After the assembly result,  Prashant Kishor was appointed by the JDU leader as an advisor to his government on policies and programme implementation.

Nitish Kumar wanted Prashant Kishor to switch from jeans to the Neta’s attire. Dozens of Kurta Pyjamas had given to Kishor during the 2015 election campaign. Despite, Nitish Kumar joined hands with BJP, Kishor’s association continued. Nitish and Kishor had multiple meetings, which has given speculations that Prashant Kumar will be inducted in JD(U). 

Even his appointment as an advisor to Nitish Kumar was challenged in the Supreme Court via a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) by one Rajesh Kumar Jaiswal. The Supreme Court rejected is saying the CM had done nothing wrong appointing Kishor as his advisor.

A bench headed by then Chief Justice of India, JS Khehar, Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice SK Kaul, had said that “The Chief Minister was not an expert on all issue and had full authority to appoint advisors for seeking suggestions on issues of public importance.”

“He (Nitish Kumar) is chief minister. He can seek advice on various subjects of public importance. He can appoint anyone as his advisor and can pay them accordingly. The chief minister is not an expert who knows everything. There is nothing wrong in the appointment,” the bench had said.
