As per a report by news agency ANI, the Election Commission of India today gave clean chit to Congress President Rahul Gandhi on his ‘murder accused’ remark against BJP President Amit Shah. The remark was made during his rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Sihora district on April 23. The EC has given the clean chit saying that there was no violation of the model code of conduct in his speech. Rahul Gandhi reportedly said in his speech, “Murder accused BJP chief Amit Shah. Wah, kya shaan hai! (Wow, what a glory!)”. Post this a complaint was filed by Amit Shah to the Election Commission.
As reported by PTI, EC officials said:
“Complaint was examined in detail and after examination of the complete transcript of speech sent by the district electoral officer of Jabalpur, the Commission is of the considered view that no violation of the model code of conduct is made out.”
Reacting to the remark by Gandhi, Amit Shah earlier said, “Let me tell you the gist of the order. I was slapped with a fake case and the court has already passed its order that it was a politically motivated allegation and was without any evidence. I don’t want to make any comment on the legal knowledge of Rahul Gandhi.”
For the unversed, in 2014, a court dismissed Shah’s case in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati encounter killings.
