World Champion weightlifter Mirabai Chanu’s coach Vijay Sharma and veteran cricket coach Tarak Sinha have been recommended along with seven others for the prestigious Dronacharya Award.
The committee led by retired Justice Mukul Mudgal also recommended Clarence Lobo (Hockey), Jeevan Sharma (Judo), CA Kuttappa (Boxing) and Srinivasa Rao (Table Tennis) for the Dronacharya (regular) Award.
For the Dhyan Chand Award, Bharat Chetri (hockey), Satya Dev Prasad (archery), Dadu Chowgule (wrestling) and Bobby Aloysius (athletics) have been recommended.

Delhi based coach Tarak Sinha, who has coached the likes of Ashish Nehra, Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant along with nine others cricketers all of whom played for the Indian national team has been recommended for the Dronacharya (lifetime) Award, besides Clarence Lobo (hockey) and Jiwan (judo).
Meanwhile, CA Kuttappa has been associated with boxing for many years. Olympics bronze medallist Vijender Kumar had credited Kuttappa for guiding him enroute to his fourth finish at the mega event.
The Dhyanchand honour is presented to sportspersons for their lifetime achievements and contribution to sport during both their active career and after retirement. While the Dronacharya award is given to coaches for their excellent work on a consistent basis over a period of four years.
