Doctor Who might have skimped on a Christmas Special last year but BBC has announced that the show will get a holiday special named Revolution of the Daleks in 2020. Doctor Who wrapped up its twelfth season with finale episode The Timeless Children.
BBC has just stated that the Doctor Who Holiday Special episode will broadcast “in the upcoming festive season”. However, no set date has been announced. For the past two seasons, the series has not had a Christmas Special. Instead, the series has been getting New Year’s Specials.
“We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did,” Chibnall said in the statement. “But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you!). There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”
Charlotte Moore, director of BBC content added, “I can’t wait for the Doctor to go into battle with the ultimate enemy in this year’s Daleks festive special.”
In January, Whittaker confirmed that she will return as the Doctor in the show’s thirteenth season. “Yes, I’m doing another season,” Whittaker said. “That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say, but it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie! I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight!”
